We are Still Open but we NEED more Volunteer Help

More than 20 of our volunteers who help weekly are currently staying at home to protect themselves or a family member in the high-risk category. That leaves us with many shifts to fill.  If you are a volunteer who is not on our weekly schedule and you are willing to help, please contact Linda.  If you are a volunteer who already volunteers once a week and are willing to do more, please contact Linda:  volunteers@wastenotflorida.com.

Because Waste Not Want Not rescues food for those in need, we are not among the business required to close.  We will continue rescuing and distributing food as long as there is surplus food to rescue and a way to distribute it to those in need WITHOUT putting our volunteers or the community at risk.

Currently, all truck runs, in-house shifts, and rescues (other than Red Lobster and Jaguars Team Feeding) continue as usual.  If anything changes, Linda or I will let you know.  And as always, if you need a sub for any reason, please let Linda know as soon as you can at (904) 505-5894.

Thank you!

January is usually a slow month for food rescue, BUT

not this year!  Based on our preliminary numbers for the month, our hard-working volunteers have rescued close to 161,ooo pounds of food so far this year.  In addition to the usual baked items and restaurant foods, we also rescued two pallet-loads of frozen mango smoothie mix, 160 cases of Brussel sprouts, and 8,000 pounds of potatoes refused by stores for various reasons and several hundred pounds of meat that another charity failed to pick up as scheduled.  Waste Not Want Not putting food where it belongs – on plates, not in landfills.

4,200 Meals a Day!

Waste Not volunteers rescued and delivered 1,936,063 pounds of food last year to people struggling to feed themselves and their families.  That’s 4,200 meals a day, 362 days last year!  Our volunteers donated more than 500 hours a week to multiply every donor’s gift, providing 10 meals to those in need for each dollar donated.

Donors and volunteers: together you filled plates, changed lives, made a difference.   Well done!
